Abstract

This research paper investigates the role of digital forensics in Bangladesh's police department's fight against crime. The researcher administered questionnaires to 52 members of the Bangladesh police department and analyzed the data. The study identified six dimensions, including the accuracy of evidence collected, an improved procedure for collecting evidence, a higher conviction rate, geolocating and criminal mapping, crime prevention, and fresh perspectives on cases. Through data analysis, the study determined that the accuracy of collected evidence, the enhancement of the evidence collection process, the improvement of geolocation and criminal mapping, and the introduction of new perspectives on cases positively impact the capacity of digital forensics to combat crime. Digital forensics has the greatest impact on fighting crime in terms of new perspectives on cases, enhanced evidence collection procedures, and increased conviction rates, according to the study. Analysis of multicollinearity revealed that the values of all independent variables can be predicted independently, and the total variance inflation factor was less than three, indicating that the research model is acceptable. The study concludes that the Bangladesh police department should prioritize incorporating digital forensics into their crime-fighting strategies, particularly in areas such as evidence collection, crime prevention, and criminal mapping, based on its findings. Additionally, the study recommends that police officers receive adequate training in digital forensics to utilize the technology effectively in their daily operations. The study sheds light on the role of digital forensics in the Bangladesh police department's fight against crime. The findings indicate that digital forensics has the potential to increase conviction rates, enhance evidence-collection processes, and improve the veracity of collected evidence. The study suggests that the Bangladesh police department invests in digital forensics technology and training to enhance their crime-fighting abilities.
