Navigating Digital Risks and Resilience in a Connected Bangladesh
In its December 2024 edition, the Bangladesh Journal of MIS clearly identifies both the advantages and disadvantages of MIS as an interrelated element of technology and socioeconomic issues; it emphasizes the importance of developing resilience through MIS. The diversity of our papers shows that MIS offers the potential for new benefits but also creates systematic risks that require strategic management. Research shows that internet addiction and emotional instability negatively affect the academic performance of undergraduate students, thus showing that there is a need for a number of digital well-being interventions. Similarly, with an increase in the use of technologies such as blockchain in e-government and the growing adoption of ABCD (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud, Data Analytics) in the hospitality industry, we see a significant shift toward modernizing the basic services and sectors of the economy. In addition, when looking back at the lessons of the Rana Plaza tragedy from the victims' point of view, we can again emphasize the importance of utilizing MIS to provide transparency, to monitor the supply chain, and to develop ethical governance practices that will support long-term sustainability and social accountability in key sectors of the economy, particularly the RMG sector. Clearly, the path forward is to manage effectively both the behavioral, institutional, and technological risks associated with the development of a highly interconnected society.

Editorial Comment:
MIS: The Catalyst for Trust, Security, and Sustainability in Bangladesh
The articles in this issue of the Bangladesh Journal of MIS demonstrate that MIS is the key catalyst for Bangladesh's digital evolution. We have found that user trust and satisfaction are significant drivers of adoption of AI-driven mobile financial services, and digital marketing changes the way consumers behave. Most importantly, MIS-enabled technologies will help public safety by enhancing the Bangladesh Police's digital forensic capabilities to better investigate and prevent crimes. The authors collectively agree that institutional investment and ongoing education/training are required to ensure the continued security and sustainability of the country's digital future.
In addition to advancing Bangladesh's digital development through MIS, MIS also plays an essential role in advancing sustainability and economic diversity. For example, the hospitality sector may use intelligent technology interventions to more efficiently manage food waste and improve its environmental accountability. At the same time, Bangladesh's growing opportunity to develop "Dark Tourism" based on its rich liberation war history could be realized through targeted digital promotions. Therefore, the collective findings of these articles provide a clear directive for researchers, policymakers, and business leaders to incorporate and utilize MIS and AI strategies in the development of a competitive, secure, and sustainable digital economy in Bangladesh.
