Peer-Review Process
The journal follows a double-blind peer-review process. Authors’ identities are concealed from reviewers, and reviewers’ identities are concealed from authors.
1. Initial Editorial Assessment
An editor assesses each submission for its relevance to the journal’s scope, originality, scholarly quality, compliance with author guidelines, and ethical requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be rejected without external review.
Authors must submit an anonymized manuscript and a separate title page containing author details.
2. Independent External Review
Every research article considered for publication is evaluated by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Reviewers must be independent of the authors and free from conflicts of interest that could compromise their assessment.
Reviewers assess originality, methodological soundness, analysis, presentation, ethical considerations, and contribution to knowledge.
Review timeframe. Reviewers are normally requested to complete their assessments within two to four weeks. Actual review times may vary according to reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript.
3. Editorial Decisions and Revisions
The handling editor considers the reviewers’ reports and decides whether to accept the manuscript, request minor or major revisions, or reject it. Authors receive anonymized reviewer comments and, when revisions are requested, must provide a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response.
Revised manuscripts may be returned to the reviewers for further assessment. An additional independent reviewer may be consulted when reports differ substantially or further expertise is needed. Publication is not guaranteed by submission or revision.
4. Conflicts of Interest and Confidentiality
Editors and reviewers must disclose relevant personal, professional, institutional, or financial conflicts of interest and withdraw from handling a manuscript when their impartiality could be compromised.
Submitted manuscripts and review reports are confidential. Reviewers must not share manuscripts, use unpublished findings for personal benefit, or upload confidential material to generative AI services. Assessments must remain fair, respectful, and supported by scholarly reasoning.
5. Submissions by Editors, Board Members, and Reviewers
Submissions authored by editors, editorial board members, or journal reviewers undergo the same independent external peer review as other submissions. An editor without a conflict of interest handles the manuscript.
Author-editors take no part in selecting reviewers, assessing reports, or making the publication decision for their own work.
6. Special Issues
If BJMIS publishes special issues, their research articles undergo the same peer-review process as regular submissions. The Editor-in-Chief retains overall responsibility for editorial standards and oversees guest editors. Submissions authored by guest editors are handled by an independent editor.
7. Appeals
Authors may appeal an editorial decision by contacting the journal at managing.editor.bjmis@du.ac.bd and providing a clear explanation supported by evidence.
Appeals are assessed by an editor who was not responsible for the original decision, with additional independent advice sought where necessary.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit. Payment of an article processing charge, or the granting of a fee waiver, does not influence peer review or acceptance.
