COPE Standards for Editors of Bangladesh Journal of Management Information Systems (BJMIS)

As editors of the Bangladesh Journal of Management Information Systems (BJMIS), they are required to follow the ethical guidelines outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure fair, transparent, and rigorous editorial practices. The following COPE standards are specifically designed for the editors of BJMIS to promote integrity in the publication process:

1. Fair and Unbiased Decision-Making

Editors do evaluate manuscripts solely based on their intellectual content, quality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without bias toward the authors' gender, race, nationality, or institutional affiliation. Decisions are made based on the merit of the research and are not influenced by personal relationships or conflicts of interest.

2. Confidentiality

Editors maintain confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts and all related correspondence. Manuscripts are not shared with anyone other than those involved in the editorial and peer review process (e.g., reviewers and other editors). Personal information about authors and reviewers is handled with the utmost confidentiality.

3. Conflict of Interest

Editors do disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect their decision-making. They recuse themselves from handling a manuscript if they have any financial, personal, or professional interest in the reviewed research. Any such conflicts are transparently addressed to maintain the credibility of the publication process.

4. Integrity and Ethics of Research

Editors ensure that the research published in the journal adheres to ethical standards, including compliance with regulations on human and animal rights, data integrity, and the ethical use of sources. They ensure that research involving human participants or animals follows ethical guidelines and has received appropriate ethical approvals.

5. Transparency in the Editorial Process

Editors maintain transparency in their editorial decisions, providing clear and justified reasons for decisions to authors. They ensure that all editorial processes, including peer review and decision-making, are conducted transparently and fairly. If revisions are required, editors provide authors with constructive feedback based on the reviewers' assessments.

6. Handling of Conflicts and Complaints

Editors act promptly and fairly to address any complaints or concerns raised by authors, reviewers, or other stakeholders. This includes investigating cases of suspected misconduct, such as plagiarism, data manipulation, or unethical behavior, and taking appropriate action based on the findings, which may include rejection, retraction, or issuing corrections.

7. Ensuring Quality and Integrity of the Peer Review Process

Editors oversee a fair, rigorous, and transparent peer review process. They ensure that reviewers are qualified to assess the manuscript and that they provide objective, constructive feedback. Reviewers are also unbiased and should not have conflicts of interest with the authors. Editors ensure that all submitted manuscripts undergo appropriate peer review to uphold the journal's quality.

8. Encouraging Ethical Publishing Practices

Editors promote ethical publishing practices by encouraging authors to adhere to ethical guidelines such as those related to authorship, plagiarism, and data manipulation. They ensure that appropriate citation practices are followed, with proper acknowledgment of the intellectual contributions of others.

9. Handling Manuscript Retractions and Corrections

If significant errors, ethical violations, or misconduct cases are discovered after publication, editors take appropriate steps to address these issues. This may involve issuing corrections, clarifications, or, in severe cases, retractions of the affected articles. Retractions are handled transparently and communicated to the readers.

10. Promotion of Research Integrity

Editors actively work to foster a culture of research integrity, which includes taking steps to prevent research misconduct, promoting transparency in reporting, and ensuring that all published research meets high standards of quality and ethical responsibility.

11. Respect for Authors and Reviewers

Editors treat authors and reviewers with respect and courtesy. They ensure that authors are given clear communication about the status of their submissions and provide timely feedback. Reviewers are acknowledged for their contributions, and editors ensure the peer review process is respectful and professional.

12. Continuous Professional Development

Editors do engage in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in publishing, ethical standards, and emerging trends in academic research. They participate in training and educational opportunities that enhance their ability to manage the editorial process effectively and fairly.

By adhering to these COPE standards, BJMIS editors maintain the integrity, transparency, and ethical rigor of the journal, ensuring that the research published is of the highest quality and adheres to the principles of responsible and ethical publishing.
